Striving For Excellence
BACKGROUND
Iqra’a University (formerly the International College of Business & Management – ICBM) was established in 2002 by the Islamic Zakat Fund (IZF). Since its inception, the institution has trained over 4,500 graduates through programs accredited by ICAM, ABE, IOBM, and ABMA.
In 2008, management was transferred to the Bilal Charity Trust, which expanded student enrollment through bursaries and set a long-term vision to transform the college into a full-fledged university.
In 2019, ICBM obtained provisional registration from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to begin preparations for launching degree programs. Between December 2019 and December 2020, the institution focused on infrastructure development, resource mobilization, and program promotion, though it did not yet admit students.
A major milestone was achieved on 30th September 2021, when ICBM received full registration from NCHE—officially marking its transition toward university status. Since then, the institution has secured a new campus and continued working diligently toward full accreditation for its degree programs.
In October 2025, the Government of Malawi officially approved the institution’s name change to Iqra’a University, reflecting its renewed vision, expanded academic mandate, and continued commitment to excellence in higher education.
